Episode Transcript:

NATHAN GRIFFIS
So I'm happy to sit down with you. Obviously, here's here's a fun fact. Erin and I have known each other since elementary school, which is just insanely crazy. And so our paths crossed. We didn't stay in touch for, like, two decades.

ERIN ONDERCIN
There was no internet.

NATHAN GRIFFIS
No, no, there was no internet. And all of a sudden, I see your name on a Christmas card list. And obviously you're with Bohler now, but you were with a different company doing some business development. And you crossed paths with our team. So here's your warm up question. Okay. Yeah. In seventh grade. In seventh grade, I was dating one of your friends.

NATHAN GRIFFIS
And your friend dumped me on the day of the seventh grade. Our first seventh grade dance. Who was that?

ERIN ONDERCIN
Was it Danielle Scheer?

NATHAN GRIFFIS
No, it wasn't Danielle Scheer.

ERIN ONDERCIN
That was more high school.

NATHAN GRIFFIS
That was more high school. No. No. Last chance. She a.

ERIN ONDERCIN
Cheerleader?

NATHAN GRIFFIS
She was a cheerleader. It was Kara Sykes.

ERIN ONDERCIN
So she lives by me, and she. Yeah, I.

NATHAN GRIFFIS
Know, I know, she totally does. And here's the message I need you to send back to Terra. Nathan still has hair. That's that's that's what I need you to tell me.

ERIN ONDERCIN
Husband does.

NATHAN GRIFFIS
Not. But we do single family developments as well.

ERIN ONDERCIN
So really it is retail. Retail is our number one. And then we do a lot of data center work, which is the new buzzword. Yes, it is for some, we were in at ground zero for data center work. Sure. We do a lot of that in the Carolinas.

NATHAN GRIFFIS
Don't worry. I'm not going to ask anything about power grid and light. And, like, micro nuclear power plants. That's not what we're about here today. What's the one thing that you wish you'd have known before? Year? We have to do a training session because we'll record some of this, and we'll give it to, future Icsi attendees.

NATHAN GRIFFIS
So what's the one thing you wish you'd have known going into, your first ICSC?

ERIN ONDERCIN
You know how big it is, and that even though you have a target list and you are prepared with everything that you have been trying to remember for the last two weeks, you're probably not going to run into everybody you want to run into. And just being able to turn on a dime. I mean, I've been walking around here talking to people that I had, you know, I was not planning on talking to.

ERIN ONDERCIN
You don't need to. Unnecessary apologies. I think that was that what that book was called? And then there's. I think her name is Molly Fletcher, and she was a speaker at ICSC here in Orlando. My first show. Okay. And she is the. Jerry. What the, Jerry Maguire. So she, Oh. Is that is that his name?

ERIN ONDERCIN
Yeah. So she was.

NATHAN GRIFFIS
Well, it's better than Jerry Springer, so I'm glad you went. Jerry Maguire.

ERIN ONDERCIN
She's a sports agent for many, many years and had a lot of big clients. Okay. And being a female in a male dominated industry. So I probably have read all of her books now, but she was a speaker here in Orlando IX many years ago, and since then I've been a fan of all of her books personally and professionally.

ERIN ONDERCIN
You can take it both ways.

NATHAN GRIFFIS
So I know you think really, building your community is really, really important. And kind of seeing all that happened in Charlotte. I know you're I know you're passionate about the how you influence the marketplace. First ten months right at Boler. What what's the big influence that you feel like or impact you've made on your local community in Charlotte?

ERIN ONDERCIN
I would say the, the biggest impact I've made out there, knowing that we're going out there and impact of doing good work and knowing that I'm, I feel passionate about it. So when I'm speaking with somebody, it's really coming from within that I know that we can help them on and whatever they need. Right now, we're helping a developer on something that they can't seem to get through permits very, very well in another city.

ERIN ONDERCIN
Just to go out and speak passionately about what we're doing, where we're at and how we can help.
